The Slovak National Folklore Ballet Lúčnica, famous from its many successful international tours, known as "The Rolling Stones of Folklore", is proudly presenting its premiere "Beautiful and Young - Australia Tour 2010".

čnica, inspired by national traditions, will 'whip' the audience into a frenzy. It's a creation of mastery and fantasy combined with a unique dance and music show based on Slovak folklore which has triumphed around the world for more than 60 years.

32 Skilful young dancers accompanied by a 12-piece professional orchestra, dressed in many different colorful handmade costumes with marvelous embroidery, present dynamic and poetic dances, virtuoso folk tunes and songs from different regions of Slovakia.

"I have never seen such beauty and richness of traditional national culture, like the one in Slovakia, in any of the numerous countries I have visited throughout my career," said Dominik Hrbatý, the famous Slovak tennis player, two times Perth Hopman Cup winner and two times Australian Open singles quarter-finalist.

The ballet includes; the highest level of professional artistic performance, world unique instruments "Cimbal" and "Fujara" under the UN Heritage; specially selected young girls, some of whom contested Miss Slovakia, the talent of the soccer nation (conqueror of Italy at FIFA World Cup), tennis nation (Fed Cup winner, Davis Cup finalist) and ice-hockey nation (World Champion).

There is a hidden power that catches your eye and resonates with senses. The only Folklore Ballet ever allowed to perform at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden London which sold out on three consecutive nights!

Background


Slovakia - a picturesque country of fertile lowlands and rugged mountains, lies in the heart of Europe, where the cultures of the West and East meet with the cultures of the sunny South and neighboring northern of Europe. Rich in its natural beauties, historical and cultural sights, Slovakia is also very rich in national art and folk culture. National songs, music, dances and costumes are manifold and diverse in every region, each filled with poetry and dynamic temperament.

Lúčnica ballet

The representation of this cultural richness is the Slovak national folklore ballet - Lúčnica. Inspired by the national traditions, they create by their mastery and fantasy a folkloric show filled with a high level of artistic performance in capturing the originality of each dance. Lúčnica ballet has spread its art for more than 62 years in countries all around the world. More then 2000 young people have been members of Lúčnica ballet and the ensemble was presented Slovak folklore in more then sixty countries on five continents including Brodway in New York and The Royal Opera House in London. Lúčnica has served as an official representative of Czechoslovakia and after the separation (1993) The Slovak Republic.

Dance ensemble

The dance ensemble is formed by young people who posses brilliant dance technique and spontaneous performance skills. In spite of the complexity of individual dances which are comparable with top sport mastery the dancers perform the dances with lightness and great enthusiasm. Pretty young girls and skilful dancers present dynamic and poetic dances and songs in colorful handmade national costumes from different regions.

Orchestra

The dance ensemble is accompanied with an orchestra which is a small professional group of excellent musicians named "Golden Violin". The orchestra consists of twelve members with brilliant skills and experience from abroad. The orchestra also offers independent concerts all around the world with a broad repertoire consisting of a variety of musical styles. The virtuosity of Golden Violin can be seen in some parts of the show program where typical Slovak traditional music instruments dominate the music pieces featured.

Artistic director - Prof. Štefan Nosáľ (1927)

The whole 62 years history of the Lúčnica ballet is firmly connected with the personality of its artistic director and choreographer - Prof. Štefan Nosáľ. His artistic genius and unique invention left deep imprint in the ensemble. He created over a hundred choreographies and evening programs. Due to his invention, artistic creativity and vitality he is considered a national hero.
