The Sounds of the Supremes led by '70's/'80's "Supreme" Kaaren Ragland are an American vocal group who perform the music of The Supremes all over the world. In the beginning......Since the late 1980s, when '70's/'80's "Supreme" Kaaren Ragland founded the group, The Sounds Of The Supremes have performed in over 60 countries and achieved a remarkable degree of worldwide success. The only female group of it its type that perform all of The Supremes 25plus chart topping hit songs "Live in Concert" today. The Sounds of the Supremes are touring Australia in June 2014, proudly presented by Danny Flynn International Tours/Events. London's "What's On" described their incomparable energy-packed show as "a non-stop bravura performance of immense vitality" recreating "perfectly the frenetic style and sound of the original lineup". In 1998 the Mayor of Springfield, Illinois, declared August 21 "Sounds of the Supremes' Day" and the same year Australian Entertainment Industry honoured them with a prestigious 'Mo Award'. Radio Regenborgen (Germany) presented the group with their 2001 Lifetime Achievement Award "for keeping the music alive". Six years later in 2007 the ladies released the album "Live At Highclere Castle" in England on Succession Records. Joined by Kathy Merrick and Althea Burkhalter, these three American women possess more than 40 years of experience in recording, television, cabaret, theater, and musicals. They deliver a fantastic vocal blend of Motown classics, standards, and contemporary songs coupled with stylish choreography, and unrivalled glamour. The music of Motown which influenced a generation has shown itself to be one of the most definitive and enduring contributions to American Pop history. I Hear A Symphony .. and many more classic Motown songs ... live In-Concert Kaaren Ragland Kaaren Ragland is a former member of original Supreme Mary Wilson's 70s/80s group that performed at many venues throughout the U.K., Europe, and the United States, coupled with tours of Australia, New Zealand, and South East Asia in the 70s. In the 80s she appeared with The Supremes before Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret in London at 'Pori Jazz Festival', the 'Bottom Line' Club in Nagoya, Japan, 'Carnival' in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and throughout Australia on the 'Legends of Rock' tour in 1989. Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Kaaren studied acting at the School of Fine Arts, Boston University. On stage she appeared in the Broadway musical, "Eubie" with Cab Calloway, the New York based National Shakespeare Company as their featured Ingenue, "Balm in Gilead", and the renowned musical, "The Little Shop of Horrors" in Los Angeles. Kaaren continues to lead this definitive trio whosel show recordings include Detroit-LA (recorded live in Germany), a notable appearance on the '95 Mercury/Verve release by jazz legend Herbie Hancock, Dis is Da Drum and her groups' 2007 release: "Live At Highclere Castle" (in the U.K.). Kathy Merrick Born in Washington, DC, Kathy majored in drama, music, and dance at Howard University. As a founding member of international vocal recording group Shades of Lace during the 80's followed by A.S.A.P. she appeared on BET's "Video Soul", Don Cornelius' "Soul Train" and "Showbiz Today" (CNN). The group performed live at the legendary (Live At The) "Apollo" and at casinos in Vegas, The Sands, The Dunes, and Caesar's Palace. In the early 90s Kathy's considerable vocal talents led to world tours with Boz Scaggs, James Ingrams and "New Edition's" Johnny Gill, with whom she also appeared on "The Tonight Show" and "Arsenio Hall". Her sultry good looks led Jeff "Splash" Kutash to invite Kathy to sing lead vocals in his "CoverGirls" revue, and Donny Moore's "Playboy Girls of Rock-N-Roll". Kathy has been a member of Sounds of the Supremes since 1997. Althea Burkhalter Althea, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, is a versatile entertainer who gained early recognition locally as a member of "Brandywine", opening for Philadelphia's Billy Paul (Me & Mrs Jones). With formal training at Cuyahoga Community College for voice, piano, and acting and as a successful graduate of the Babizon School of Modeling in her hometown, Althea has since performed live throughout the Unites States and as a studio singer in Florida for Sunshine Records. A resident of Las Vegas, she has notably performed at Bally's and Stardust, MGM Grand, and Mirage, to name a few. Prior to joining Sounds of the Supremes, her stunning, soulful, gospel-tinged voice was a feature of ex-"Checkmate" ("Black Pearl"), Sonny Charles' group "The Emeralds" at the Las Vegas Hilton and Stratosphere showrooms . She also appeared for a notable period of time in New York, New York, as a member of Motown legend's Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. Althea originally joined Sounds of the Supremes in 1997. |
